(spoiler alert: we can film!)
The good ol’ Lockdown begins December 26th, 2020 at 12:01am. Just in time to settle into a new pair of sweatpants and reflect on the great dumpster fire of 2020! Thankfully, now is the time the world turns their OUT OF OFFICE notice on and clocks out…
But like 99.9% entrepreneurs video producers are likely not clocking out mentally. The doom & gloom of 2020 is bleeding right into the first month of 2021 and we want to know what we’re walking into. Thankfully this time we aren’t blindsided by new protocol & restrictions.
SO WHAT DOES THE ONTARIO LOCKDOWN MEAN FOR VIDEO PRODUCTION?
TL: DR
-YES! We can film (with restrictions)
-There are no more than10 performs may be permitted on set
-Sets must be configured in a way to enable physical distancing for the exception for on-screen talent during filming
-Makeup & Hair artists must wear appropriate protective equipment
-Then the usual stuff we should all be doing anyways: masks are mandatory, wash your hands, sanitize areas, craft services should be separate, don’t come in if you’re at risk of having or being exposed to the ‘Rona.
BUT WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR VIDEO PRODUCTION?
It’s important that any video creator adheres to the above guidelines. We are given permission to keep working. It’s not going to be easy and at times it’ll be a pain in the rump, but if we’re fortunate enough to keep working we have to be wise with how we conduct our business.
Our company generally operates with smaller crews than most and therefore have to wear multiple hats & titles. This requires patience in the process, but often generates pretty decent results & keeps budgets respectable.
Get small with your crews, get creative with your ideas & be patient with the process.
On a personal note, if you are a video creator who’s been hit & struggling with next steps, know we’re here to support (even if it’s just to hear you out & let you know you aren’t alone).
And to our clients – thanks for journeying with us through the wild ride of 2020 together. Remember, we’re in this togeth… wait… No. *slaps face* We’ve been privileged to get to create for so many of you. We truly appreciate the trust & value you’ve put into us this year.
